So what now?

We all need to work together to swiftly address what happened in Minneapolis in the most comprehensive way possible, and on a national scale. We need to develop very specific, concrete and measurable ways to implement personnel, operational and policy changes that will do everything possible to prevent reoccurrence of that horribly ugly day. We need to protect the lives of all the people we serve, and need to find ways to keep bad officers out of our police ranks everywhere.

I am just a police chief in a small community in Ohio, but I know that my feelings on this matter are shared with police chiefs all across Ohio and America, from the biggest cities, to the smallest villages. I stand ready to join all police chiefs in a critically important quest to restore faith in the policing profession, faith among all people, people of every color, ethnic background, religious affiliation and the rest, but particularly all of the people in our black community nationwide.
