Knowledge of:
- Inspection methods and techniques
- Construction methods, equipment, terminology, and techniques
- Surveying principles and practices as applied to construction work
- Soil and material properties
- Safety and traffic control procedures
- Plan checking
- SRSD, City, County and State standard specifications
- Fundamental GIS systems, databases, and computer applications such as Excel, Word, and MS Outlook.
Ability to:
- Interpret and enforce sanitation district construction standards
- Read engineering plans and specifications
- Work from general oral and written instruction
- Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, officials and the general public
- Effectively manage time and workload
- Work in the field during the hours construction is occurring including but not limited to evenings.
- Write technical reports.
Education and/or experience:
Equivalent to AA degree with specialization in civil engineering or construction management (additional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year for year basis up to a total of two years) and Two (2) years of responsible engineering inspection or administrative construction experience is required. Municipal sewer inspection experience is highly desirable.
Valid California Driver’s License.
Language skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.
Mathematical skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in construction related situations.
