Budget Retreat Rescheduling

Mrs. Smiddy noted a scheduling conflict between the October budget retreat and the ICMA Conference. Council agreed to reschedule the retreat to November 5. The September 8 Budget Review Committee (BRC) meeting will be canceled as a result.

Personnel Update

Mrs. Smiddy reported that conditional job offers have been extended to candidates for the Parks & Recreation Foreman and Recreation Specialist positions.

Gardner Pool Swim Meet Schedule

Mrs. Jackson inquired about the Gardner Pool swim meet schedule. Mrs. Smiddy noted that the schedule is maintained and updated on the City website.

Longest Table Event

Mr. Dorf briefly commented on the recent “Longest Table” event hosted by the Oakwood Inclusion Coalition.

ODNR Grant Update

Mrs. Jackson asked about the status of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) grant awarded for park renovation projects. Mrs. Smiddy provided an update.

Council Attendance and Wellness Program

Mrs. Jackson noted she will be absent from the August 3 meeting. She also inquired about participation in the City’s wellness program. Mrs. Smiddy reported strong participation and noted it may improve the City’s position when seeking insurance consortium options during upcoming policy renewals.

Streetlight Banners and Hanging Baskets

Mrs. Jackson expressed support for the new Far Hills Avenue streetlight banners and asked about feedback regarding the hanging plant baskets. Mr. Dorf noted limited negative feedback, while Council overall expressed favorable views. Mrs. Smiddy stated that staff will continue to evaluate and refine planting approaches.

Mowing and Landscaping Contract Performance

Mayor Duncan requested an update on the performance of the City’s mowing and landscaping contractors. Mrs. Smiddy provided an update.

Oakwood Historical Society Discussion

Vice Mayor Byington requested further discussion of challenges identified during a recent Oakwood Historical Society presentation. Council discussed the issues.

Former Indie West Building Activity

Mr. Dorf noted observed activity at the former Indie West building at the corner of Far Hills and Triangle Avenues and indicated a new business may be locating at the site.

Board of Health Membership Update

Mayor Duncan provided an update on the status of Board of Health membership.
