OAKWOOD CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION

JULY 19, 2021

The Council of the city of Oakwood, Ohio, met in a work session on Monday, July 19, 2021 in the second-floor training room at the city building, 30 Park Avenue. The Mayor of the City, William Duncan, presided.

Council members in attendance were Mayor William Duncan, Vice Mayor Steve Byington, Councilmember Rob Stephens, Councilmember Anne Hilton and Councilmember Leigh Turben. Staff in attendance were Leisure Services Director Carol Collins and City Attorney Rob Jacques.

Mayor Duncan called the work session to order at 7:00 p.m. and reviewed the agenda for the regular session this evening. Thereafter, Mayor Duncan led a discussion on the following agenda items:

  • STATUS REPORTS:
    • Citizen Committee Appointments: Mayor Duncan mentioned that he will call for a vote at the regular session this evening to appoint Sarena Kelly, David Schoeff and Andrew Norton to the Beautification Committee; Megan O'Leary to the Budget Review Committee; and Tracy Staley to the Property Maintenance Board.
  • VISITORS:
    • 2021 May and June Beautification Award Winners: Mayor Duncan mentioned that he will recognize recipients of the 2021 May and June Beautification Awards.
  • LEGISLATION: Council discussed the following legislation scheduled for presentation at the regular session this evening:
    • A Resolution and Public Hearing to review a request for an amendment to the Sugar Camp/Pointe Oakwood master plan relating to building use, Vice Mayor Byington
    • A Resolution to place a 2.72 mill renewal tax levy on the November 2, 2021 ballot, Vice Mayor Byington
    • An Ordinance to levy special assessments for the 2020 Sidewalk Repair Project, Mr. Stephens
    • An Ordinance to accept certain real estate and dedicate the same as public right-of-way, Mr. Stephens
  • STAFF REPORT: Ms. Collins noted that Public Safety Director Chief Alan Hill will deliver a PowerPoint presentation at the regular session this evening.
  • COUNCIL COMMITTEES
    • Safety & Traffic, Mr. Stephens
      • Package Delivery Vehicles: Mayor Duncan said that he continues to see delivery trucks parking illegally when making deliveries. Mr. Jacques explained that the delivery trucks are typically in and out of that particular location fairly quickly making it tough to enforce. The Public Safety Department will address the issue if they see it happening.
      • Fireworks: Vice Mayor Byington commented on the illegal use of fireworks that are creating a disturbance in our residential neighborhoods.
      • Traffic Warnings: Council discussed the June Public Safety Department report data that was included in last week's Friday newsletter.
