Old River Fields Turf Study Update

Mrs. Smiddy provided an update on a study of the natural turf at the Old River athletic fields. The Oakwood United Soccer organization is contributing half of the study cost. Public communication on the matter will begin in this week’s Oakwood Register.

America 250 Event and Hiring Updates

Mrs. Smiddy updated Council on planning efforts for an America 250 event in collaboration with the Oakwood Inclusion Coalition, as well as the status of hiring for multiple positions.

Centerville Sheetz Appellate Decision

Mayor Duncan reported on a recent appellate court decision involving the City of Centerville’s denial of a permit for a Sheetz gas station. Mr. Jacques explained that Centerville’s decision had been based on concerns regarding 24/7 operations at the proposed location. However, two courts have overturned the decision, citing that the applicable zoning district permits 24-hour operations.

Tree Lawn Removal Process Inquiry

Mayor Duncan inquired about the process for a resident to remove a tree located in the tree lawn in front of their home. Mr. Jacques provided clarification.

Launch Dayton Event Report

Mr. Dorf reported on his attendance at a recent Launch Dayton event focused on small business development, noting that he found it very informative.

Flock Camera Resident Concern

Mr. Dorf relayed a concern from an Oakwood resident who lives near the intersection of Patterson Road and Acorn Drive. The resident expressed concerns about proximity to a Flock camera and may contact City staff regarding the issue.

Tree Contractor Bidding Process and Street Lighting

Mrs. Jackson asked about the bidding process used to select a tree contractor for the city. Mrs. Smiddy provided an explanation. Mrs. Jackson also inquired about the status of street lighting negotiations, which Mrs. Smiddy addressed.

Executive Session – Property Matters

At 6:42 p.m., Council entered executive session to discuss property matters. The executive session concluded at 7:10 p.m. and the meeting was adjourned.
