DECEMBER 4, 2023 COUNCIL MEETING

City Council met in a public session on December 4, 2023. Here are the highlights.

Council meeting minutes were approved for the November 6, 2023 regular session, work session and executive session.

STATUS REPORTS

• ➢
  PSO Swear-In – Mayor Bill Duncan recognized new Public Safety Officer Dustin Mitchell and his family. He then administered the Oath of Office. Chief Alan Hill welcomed and introduced PSO Mitchell.
• ➢
  Five Points Intersection – Council voted 5-0 to suspend further work on a roundabout at the Five Points intersection at this time.

VISITORS

• ➢
  An Oakwood resident suggested that the vacant lot at 1313 Far Hills Avenue be converted into a low-maintenance biodiversity-friendly park commemorating Oakwood resident Joe Desch.
• ➢
  An Oakwood resident spoke about holiday decorations in the public right-of-way on Wonderly Avenue.

LEGISLATION

Oakwood City Council approved the following legislation:

  An Ordinance to increase the water and sanitary sewer rates, Mrs. Turben
• ➢
  An Ordinance to place a property tax issue on the March 19, 2024 ballot, Vice Mayor Byington
• ➢
  An Ordinance to approve the 2024 Budget, Vice Mayor Byington
• ➢
  An Ordinance to approve updates to the Traffic and General Offenses Codes, Mr. Stephens
• ➢
  An Ordinance to amend the personnel schedule, Vice Mayor Byington
• ➢
  An Ordinance to amend compensation rates for Oakwood Court, Vice Mayor Byington
• ➢
  An Ordinance to amend the organization and staffing schedule, Vice Mayor Byington
• ➢
  An Ordinance to provide a supplemental appropriation for the Far Hills Resurfacing Project, Vice Mayor Byington
• ➢
  A Resolution to proceed with the 2024 ODOT resurfacing project on Far Hills Avenue, Mr. Stephens

CITY MANAGER’S COMMENTS

City Manager Norbert Klopsch commented on the Five Points intersection and the ongoing construction work along Far Hills Avenue. He then thanked city staff for their service and dedication to Oakwood.

COUNCIL COMMENTS

  Councilmember Leigh Turben reminded everyone of the annual Holiday of Lights Ceremony held at Shafor Park at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 10 and the Santa Tour on December 18. She wished everyone a happy and safe holiday season.
• ➢
  Councilmember Anne Hilton shared that this was her last meeting. She thanked City Council and city staff for everything.
• ➢
  Councilmember Rob Stephens said that it has been an honor working with Mrs. Hilton. He recognized Mrs. Hilton’s genuine care for the city.
