Established in 1972 in a spirit of friendship and cooperation, the Oakwood Sister City Association forged a sister city agreement with Le Vésinet, France, a suburb of Paris, and in 1975, the City of Outremont in Quebec, Canada, joined to complete the triangle. As a result of the outstanding success of the program and growth of the global landscape, in 1992, Oakwood signed a friendship agreement with Unterhaching, Germany, a community near Munich that enjoys a formal sister city relationship with Le Vésinet, and the relationship among the communities has provided exciting opportunities for the residents of those cities to hold meaningful and mutually beneficial exchanges in a variety of areas. This unique, unparalleled partnership has helped to strengthen the goodwill between the United States, France, Canada, and Germany and has promoted greater understanding between their peoples.

Since the inception of the sister city agreement, hundreds of guests and visitors from Oakwood, Le Vésinet, Outremont, and Unterhaching have enjoyed the benefits of these arrangements, and those who currently make these cities their home take great pride in their communities and their rich heritage. Indeed, the Oakwood Sister City Association has offered local citizens the opportunity to reflect on the benefits of life in their close-knit community and has built on the best traditions of the past to ensure a future filled with hope and promise.

Thus, with sincere pleasure, we congratulate the Oakwood Sister City Association on the Fiftieth Anniversary of its sister city partnerships and extend best wishes for peace and prosperity to all partner cities in the years to come.
