• Mr. Dorf reported that he recently spoke with John Wilson, a member of the Oakwood City School District Board of Education, regarding opportunities to strengthen engagement and communication between City Council and the Board.
  • Mrs. Smiddy shared an inquiry from Mayor Duncan regarding a potential City contribution to the Police Officers Memorial Fund and noted that the matter would be discussed at a future work session when the Mayor is present.
  • Mrs. Smiddy informed Council that she and Mayor Duncan have discussed the possibility of updating the City Charter. She stated that Mr. Jacques has been asked to prepare a proposed timeline and outline of the charter amendment process. Council discussed approaches to public education and engagement and suggested that any initial charter amendments be considered for the November 2027 ballot.
  • Mrs. Jackson reported that she and Mrs. Smiddy recently met to discuss the Annual Report. Mrs. Jackson expressed concerns regarding the format of the written draft and indicated a preference for the report to be presented verbally by Mrs. Smiddy at a Council meeting. Council discussed the matter extensively. Following discussion, Vice Mayor Byington requested that Mrs. Smiddy provide a revised written draft for further review at the June 15 work session.
  • Vice Mayor Byington noted that a significant number of emails had been distributed to Councilmembers on the day of the work session. He commented that Councilmembers may not always have sufficient time to review extensive materials immediately before a meeting and requested that information be distributed earlier whenever possible.
  • Mr. Dorf offered to invite a representative from the Small Business Development Coalition (SBDC) to a future work session to provide information on programs and services that may benefit Oakwood businesses. Council briefly discussed the suggestion and expressed support for the idea.

At 7:27 p.m., Vice Mayor Byington concluded the work session, and Council moved to regular session.
