In February 2023, the Borough of Somerville signed an agreement to sell its wastewater system to New Jersey American Water, following approval of the sale by voters on the November 2022 ballot. New Jersey American Water is already your water service provider, and we look forward to providing you with high-quality wastewater service upon completion of the sale.

It is New Jersey American Water’s practice to bill water customers for their corresponding wastewater service on the same bill. Once New Jersey American Water becomes the wastewater provider, we will include the water and wastewater services on one bill. To prepare for the transition of wastewater service billing to New Jersey American Water, we reviewed the Borough’s customer files and found that, in some instances, the water bill and wastewater bill for one residence are being mailed to different people and/or billing addresses.

We are contacting you to inform you that as the current New Jersey American Water service customer, wastewater service will be placed in your name and the bill for both services will be sent to you once the transition is final. Please contact our Customer Service Center with any questions you may have regarding this billing process.
