NOVEMBER 2, 2020 COUNCIL MEETING

City Council met in public session on November 2, 2020. Here are the highlights.

Council meeting minutes were approved for the October 5 regular session and work session, and the October 26 executive session.

STATUS REPORTS
  • Scarecrow Row Award Winners – The 2020 Scarecrow Row award winners were recognized. The awards will be hand-delivered to the winners.
  • Beautification Award Winners – A video was shown featuring the 2020 Beautification Award winners. The certificates will be mailed to the winners.
LEGISLATION

Oakwood City Council approved the following legislation:

  • An Ordinance to amend 2020 appropriations to address additional coronavirus funds.
  • A Resolution addressing the use of CARES Act funding for Safety Department personnel costs.

Oakwood City Council conducted a first reading on the following legislation:

  • An Ordinance to approve updates to the Traffic and General Offenses Codes.
CITY MANAGER’S COMMENTS

City Manager Norbert Klopsch reported on the following:

  • The Oakwood Community Center recently launched a new website offering online program and event registration.
  • Leaf collection season is in full swing. Property owners are encouraged to view the bi-weekly yard debris collection map and place leaves into the roadway gutter just a day or two before their scheduled pick-up day.
  • Later this month, the City will complete a storm sewer improvement project on Ridgewood Avenue between Schenck and E. Schantz.
  • Mr. Klopsch thanked the large section of the Oakwood community that dealt with the Vectren gas line replacement work. This year’s project is completed, but the multi-year project still has two or three more years to go. When completed, 100% of the natural gas infrastructure in Oakwood will be rebuilt.
  • The 2021 budget will be presented to City Council at the December 14 City Council meeting. It will be a balanced budget with no proposals of new taxes or fee increases.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
  • Vice Mayor Steve Byington wished everyone a happy Veterans Day and a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.
  • Mayor Bill Duncan reminded everyone that tomorrow is Election Day and encouraged everyone to vote.
