City Council met in public session on April 2, 2018. Here are the highlights:

Council meeting minutes were approved for the March 12, 2018 regular session, work session, and executive session.

• Shafor Park Tennis Court Improvements: Mayor Duncan provided an update on the Shafor Park Tennis Court Improvements and parking lot in response to the visitor comments made at the March 12 council meeting.

• Healy Jackson, 118 Lonsdale Avenue, shared that she personally prefers recreational space over a parking lot, but she also understands that this is just her opinion, and not necessarily what is best for the Oakwood community. She spoke to a number of Oakwood residents and found that most agree that we are a walking community, but when they need to bring their kids somewhere quickly, they appreciate parking spaces. She added that she believes that Oakwood City Council will vote with the best interest of the community in mind. She added that she has a high regard for Oakwood City Council’s work and time that they dedicate to making decisions. She concluded by stating that she supports whatever decision City Council makes.
• Debbie Morgan, 965 E. Schantz Avenue, said that she fails to ever hear from anyone who wants the extra parking spaces. She said that there has to be a balance between making it look pleasant with landscaping and making a nice hiding place for illicit activities to take place. She shared that she feels that decisions were made without residents’ input and the residents were just appeased by letting them speak at the council meetings.

Oakwood City Council approved the following legislation:

• An Ordinance to proceed with the 2019 Street Lighting Program.
• An Ordinance to proceed with the 2018 Sidewalk Repair Project.
• An Ordinance to levy special assessments for the 2017 Sidewalk Repair Project.

Oakwood City Council conducted a first reading on the following legislation:

• An Ordinance to levy special assessments for the 2019 Street Lighting.
• An Ordinance adopting the 2019 tax budget.
• An Ordinance to establish procedures and standards for Small Cell Wireless Facilities and Wireless Support Structures.

Public Works Update: City Manager Norbert Klopsch provided an overview of the five Public Works Foremen and their job responsibilities.
