While these systems do not replace traditional VHF paging and toning, they provide alternative methods for notifying agencies of emergency calls.
The county's 800 MHz radio system also has a degree of built-in redundancy because communications can utilize other operational tower sites when one site is unavailable.
However, this does not provide complete geographic redundancy. The loss of the Sampson site can still create coverage deficiencies for portable and mobile radios in areas that were previously served by that site.
VI. Current Restoration Efforts
The immediate priority is restoring VHF paging capability.
Equipment has been ordered and is expected to arrive early next week. Once the equipment is received, the plan is to establish temporary VHF service from the Delta Tower.
This will provide an interim solution while the Sampson site is being evaluated and repaired.
Motorola is actively working on the engineering requirements and developing equipment lists for the replacement and restoration of the Sampson site.
The intent is that, once the Sampson site is restored, the VHF equipment at Delta will remain in place as a backup VHF capability rather than being removed.
VII. Long-Term Improvements
The Sampson Tower failure also highlights several long-term infrastructure issues that should be addressed.

As part of the restoration and replacement work at Sampson, the intent is to construct an elevated building to reduce the likelihood of a similar flooding-related failure occurring in the future.
