(1) Performs a variety of public works maintenance activities; cleans assigned water plant areas and equipment and performs equipment maintenance, repair, and installation work; reports malfunctions of equipment; assists Water Plant Superintendent and other public works employees with projects and routine maintenance; acts as back-up to water plant operator.

(2) Performs varied manual and equipment operation duties in flushing, and otherwise cleaning sewers and in repairing manholes and lines; assists in such tasks as laying sewer and water lines; rebuilds storm sewer inlets and sanitary sewer manholes; repairs water main line and service breaks; locates and marks utilities.

(3) Monitors and inspects water plants and equipment to determine operating condition; checks levels and ensures that chemical feeders are on-line; monitors machines and carries out preventive maintenance; adjusts pumps and other equipment to meet operating requirements; monitors production, transmission, storage levels, system pressure, and treatment processes; makes adjustments to meet demand; maintains operating log; performs backwash on filters; collects samples from designated sources and performs standardized tests for hardness and chlorine; maintains daily records of test results; inspects water tower.

(4) Assists in maintaining water distribution system; installs water service taps and valves, fire hydrants; flushes and services fire hydrants.

(5) Removes ice and snow from roadways, driveways, and walkways; collects tree limbs and debris on streets.

(6) Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

(7) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

(8) Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
