OAKWOOD CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION

JANUARY 4, 2021

The Council of the city of Oakwood, Ohio, met in a work session on Monday, January 4, 2021 in the second floor training room at the city building, 30 Park Avenue. The Mayor of the City, William Duncan, presided.

Council members in attendance were Mayor William Duncan, Vice Mayor Steve Byington, Councilmember Rob Stephens, Councilmember Anne Hilton and Councilmember Chris Epley. Staff in attendance were City Manager Norbert Klopsch and City Attorney Rob Jacques.

Mayor Duncan called the work session to order at 6:30 p.m. and began by reviewing the agenda for the regular session this evening. Thereafter, Mayor Duncan led a discussion on the following agenda items:

  • STATUS REPORTS: Council discussed the following status reports that are scheduled for the regular session this evening:
    • Council Committee Assignments
    • Citizen Committee Appointments
    • Holiday Decorating Awards
  • VISITORS: Mr. Klopsch confirmed that there were no scheduled visitors for the regular session this evening.
  • LEGISLATION: Council discussed the following legislation scheduled for presentation at the regular session this evening:
    • An Ordinance to regulate the usage of toy vehicles on public streets, alleys and sidewalks, Mr. Stephens
  • STAFF REPORT: Mayor Duncan noted that there was no staff report scheduled for the regular session this evening.
  • MISCELLANEOUS:
    • 2020 Annual Report: Mr. Klopsch asked if Council wished for staff to prepare the 2020 Annual Report using the same format as in recent years. The response was affirmative.
    • OIC: Mr. Klopsch commented on the status of the Oakwood Inclusion Coalition (OIC) and noted that work is underway in establishing the 501(c)(3) corporation and opening a checking account. Once this is completed, the city will disburse the full balance of $7,507 from the MLK Community Recognition Fund. The money will be disbursed with $3,753.50 (50%) going to the city of Kettering and $3,753.50 (50%) to the OIC. The $7,507 is non-tax dollars that were donated to the cities of Oakwood and Kettering from private companies when the two communities jointly conducted annual MLK Breakfast events. City Council approved the $7,507 via the 2021 budget.

At 6:48 p.m., Mayor Duncan concluded the work session and opened an executive session for personnel matters.
