Job Title: Park Equipment Mechanic

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks involving the specialized maintenance, repair, improvement of park facilities, irrigation infrastructure and related areas and other related work as assigned or required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The primary purposes of the Park Equipment Mechanic are to repair and maintain a variety of small equipment and irrigation systems used within City parks. The position is typically assigned to work on equipment a minimum of two (2) full days each week and on-call the remainder of the workweek for field emergencies and inspections.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:

EQUIPMENT REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE:

  • Diagnoses mechanical problems and defects.
  • Services and repairs a wide variety of park and landscape maintenance equipment, tools and infrastructure.
  • May perform skilled repair and maintenance on Park and landscaping irrigation systems and equipment.
  • Disassembles, overhauls and rebuilds equipment, engines and park infrastructure as needed.
  • Performs servicing tasks such as cleaning and replacing various equipment parts.
  • Designs and manufactures small equipment, various hardware and parts.
  • Operates arc and gas welders to solder or fabricate tools and diagnostic equipment;
  • Performs emergency repairs in the field as required.
  • Locates, orders, purchases and transports parts as necessary.
  • Organizes and implements a preventive maintenance programs and service schedule;
  • Regularly check equipment and tools to assure operational condition.
  • Maintains complete inventory of parts, supplies and equipment and current location.
  • Keeps records such as service schedules, material costs and stock inventory.
  • Evaluates and recommends purchases and replacements of park and irrigation equipment.
  • Instructs staff in the safe operation and routine maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Maintains workshop and necessary tools.
  • Evaluates and retrofits all City maintained playground equipment to Current Federal Government standards.
  • Recommends removal and/or replacement of damaged equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
