MAY 1, 2017 COUNCIL MEETING

City Council met in public session on May 1, 2017. Here are the highlights.

Council meeting minutes were approved for the April 3, 2017 regular session and work session.

• Proclamation – Mayor Duncan read a proclamation designating May as “Motorcycle Awareness Month.”

Oakwood City Council approved the following legislation:

• An Ordinance to levy special assessments for the 2018 Street Lighting.

Oakwood City Council conducted a first reading on the following legislation:

• An Ordinance to levy special assessments for the 2016 Sidewalk Repair Project.
• An Ordinance adopting the 2018 tax budget.

Finance Report: Finance Director Cindy Stafford, CPA provided an update on 2016 year-end financials, 2017 financials through March 31, and the 2016 financial audit.

Mr. Klopsch recognized Cindy Stafford and her staff for the excellent work they perform on a daily basis. The 2016 Oakwood Annual Report was delivered to all Oakwood properties. It is also available on the city’s website at www.oakwoodohio.gov. In preparation for the Shroyer Road project, Vectren completed gas infrastructure work and the city replaced a sanitary sewer line. The Shroyer Road project is set to begin in late June and be completed in October. The city conducted two open house events in April to provide information about the project. Additional information is available on the city’s website. A letter was mailed to all of the Oakwood residents living on Ridgeway Road alerting them of concrete street repairs that will begin next week, as well as the replacement of the street lights sometime in late summer or early fall. The leaf mulch is available for two more weeks. Mulch can be picked up at the Public Works Center at no cost to Oakwood citizens on May 6 and May 13 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For those who want mulch delivered, the city offers 3 cubic yards for $90 and 6 cubic yards for $130. The sidewalk repair on the northeast side of Oakwood is wrapping up. In late May/early June, the sidewalk repair will begin on the west side of Oakwood. The Oakwood Citizen Budget Review Committee will be meeting on Monday, May 15 at 5:30 p.m. State Senator Peggy Lehner and State Representative Jim Butler will also be attending this meeting. Last week, city employees gathered to celebrate anniversary milestones for Assistant City Manager Jay Weiskircher (35 years) and Payroll Clerk Tracy Martin (30 years).

• Councilmember Rob Stephens reminded everyone of “That Day in May” on Saturday, May 20. He said there is a full slate of activities which include: the pancake breakfast, 5K and 10K runs, annual parade down Shafor Blvd., and afternoon games and rides which will be in the area between the stadium and the Jr. High School on Schantz Ave. Breakfast tickets are available at the Oakwood Community Center.
• Vice Mayor Steve Byington congratulated the Oakwood High School Academic Decathlon Team for winning the National Title for the sixth straight year. He suggested that the team be invited to a future Council meeting to recognize this incredible accomplishment.
• Mayor Bill Duncan shared that it appears that the centralized income tax collection proposal has been removed from Governor Kasich’s budget; however another reduction in municipal revenues driven by lobbyist for the distribution industry is still in the budget bill. Unfortunately, nothing will be definite until the budget is voted on in late June. Mayor Duncan shared that he is looking forward to the Budget Review Committee meeting with State Senator Peggy Lehner and State Representative Jim Butler. Mayor Duncan encouraged citizens to attend “That Day in May”.
