Project Objectives:

  • Reduce accidents.
  • Slow traffic.
  • Provide safer pedestrian sidewalks and roadway crossings.
  • Improve bikeway crossing and provide bike lanes.
  • Improve roadway streetscape.

The 2016 Shroyer Road Safety Study was a thorough traffic engineering study completed by CMT engineers. That study supports the Road Diet plan as the best way to address the city’s objectives. An independent traffic engineering peer review by The Kleingers Group supports the plan. Oakwood also received letters of support for the project from the Oakwood City Schools, the city of Kettering and the city of Dayton.

Project Schedule:

  • Design work is completed. Plans were prepared by the Kettering Engineering Department, in consultation with the city of Oakwood.
  • Construction plans have been reviewed and approved by ODOT.
  • The project will be bid on February 16 and construction is programmed to start in May.
  • Substantial completion is expected by sometime in October.

Public Notification:

  • All Shroyer Road residents and property owners received information about the safety study and Road Diet plan in early 2016.
  • The city of Oakwood conducted public meetings about the safety study and Road Diet plan on February 23 and March 3, 2016, and discussed it at the April 4, 2016 City Council meeting.
  • The city of Oakwood will conduct two open house events in advance of construction to present details on the construction schedule and sequence of events. The open house dates are not yet set.
  • The city of Oakwood will mail construction and maintenance of traffic information to all residents and property owners in advance of construction.

Project Funding:

The budget for the Oakwood Portion of the Project is $1,340,000. The cost is split as follows:

  • Federal Share: $804,000
  • Oakwood Share: $536,000
