• Public Utilities/Waterworks/Sewer, Mrs. Turben
    • GIS System: Mr. Klopsch explained that the 2022 operating budget will include money for professional services relating to the development of a comprehensive citywide GIS System. The system will include all public infrastructure and will be an important tool for maintaining that infrastructure.
    • Private Fire Hydrants: Mr. Klopsch noted that follow-up letters were sent to the owners of private fire hydrants reminding them of the August 31 deadline to address substandard private fire hydrants, and to begin conducting annual hydrant inspections and flow testing. To date, none of the owners have complied with the City's order.
    • Water System Engineering Model: Mr. Klopsch noted that the 2022 operating budget will include money for professional services to build a computer model of the city water system. This model will include all of the water system infrastructure and will be a valuable tool in developing plans for water system capital improvements over the next 10-20 years.
    • Utilities in Private Streets: Not discussed.
    • Springhouse Water Plant: Mr. Klopsch mentioned that a 12" water valve recently failed in the Springhouse Water Plant. The valve was originally installed when the plant was constructed in 1993 and was at the end of its useful life. The City is seeking a contractor to replace the valve. The one bid received to date was for approximately $43,000. The City is working to obtain a second quote and will then proceed with the repair. Given this large and unanticipated expense, the Water Fund may need a supplemental appropriation later this year.
    • Ridgewood Water Main Break: Mr. Klopsch reported that there was a water main break last week on Ridgewood Avenue, just up the hill from E. Schantz. As the water flowed down the hill through the gravel base below the pavement, it heaved a section of our newly resurfaced roadway. There was no way to prevent this from occurring. City staff met with Jurgensen last week and is awaiting a proposal to repair the asphalt pavement.
  • Safety & Traffic, Mr. Stephens
    • Girl Scout Gold Award: Mr. Stephens shared that he met with Oakwood High School Senior Azalea Biteau last month to discuss her proposed Girl Scouts project. The project aims to address safety issues along E. Schantz Avenue around Oakwood Jr./Sr. High. Mr. Klopsch noted that Chief Hill will assign Lieutenant Chuck Balaj to work with Ms. Biteau on her project.
  • Streets & Alleys, Mr. Stephens
    • Yard Debris in Streets: Mr. Klopsch commented on the letter that staff recently sent to W. Peach Orchard and Coolidge property owners reminding them of city rules regarding the placement of yard debris for pick-up. This letter was sent in response to the large number of violations on these two streets.

  • Oakwood Inclusion Coalition, Mr. Klopsch
    • Undesign the Red Line: Mr. Klopsch reported that a guided tour of the educational exhibit was provided to members of the OIC Leadership Team on Saturday, August 14 at the Dayton Metro Library. Mrs. Turben joined Mr. Klopsch on the tour. The exhibit will be held at eight other locations in the Dayton area over the next nine months.
