• Mrs. Smiddy updated Council on preparations for the upcoming America 250 celebration in 2026.
  • Mrs. Smiddy informed Council about several initiatives that have been proposed by the Oakwood Inclusion Coalition, including an event known as “The Longest Table.” Mr. Byington described his prior experience attending a Longest Table event in the City of Dayton, noting that it requires a lot of resources to put on, and suggested that OIC consider partnering with Dayton’s event.
  • Mrs. Smiddy updated Council on her ongoing discussions with Oakwood United Soccer regarding the Old River soccer fields. A meeting is scheduled for December 4, and she hopes to determine what they might commit to fund, if anything.
  • Mrs. Smiddy commented on the upcoming luminaria event on December 14, and efforts to recruit volunteers from Oakwood Rotary, school groups, and local Scout organizations.
  • Mrs. Smiddy and Mr. Jacques updated Council on H.B. 503, which proposes changes to the way municipalities handle credits for income taxes paid to other jurisdictions. If enacted, H.B. 503 would require any adjustment of the credit to be put before the voters as a ballot measure.
  • Mrs. Smiddy informed Council about possible roadway safety issues involving sightlines and bushes on private property. These were recently studied by TEC Engineering. Based on their recommendations, letters went out to four homeowners on November 10. Doug Spitler is scheduling meetings with the affected homeowners to discuss options.
  • Mr. Jacques informed Council that the City will be participating in a cybersecurity cohort program offered by MVECA. The program will ensure City compliance with cybersecurity requirements recently mandated via H.B. 96. A resolution will be on Council’s December agenda to authorize participation in the program.
  • Mr. Jacques informed Council about multi-district class action litigation involving manufacturers of PFAS chemicals. The City intends to submit a claim utilizing a firm in Toledo, Ohio that specializes in these kinds of cases. Mrs. Smiddy also noted that the EPA is relaxing certain reporting requirements that apply to PFAS chemicals.
  • Mrs. Turben asked for information about fall leaf collection procedures. It appears that City crews may be handling leaves from private homeowners, while the City’s contractor is clearing leaves from boulevards. Mrs. Smiddy confirmed that.
