Twenty years ago, City Council, a citizen committee and City staff worked on new plans for the Oakwood Public Works Center. John Chain, who was the service director at the time, had many different skills, but his strongest skill was maintaining vehicles and equipment, and in overseeing the mechanic shop. He helped develop the plans for the current mechanic shop, which is one of the most important components of the Public Works Center. The “shop” has served the City well for the past 18 years.
Mrs. Hilton asked for clarification on the recycling guidelines.
Mr. Klopsch shared that previously, if there was any doubt on what to do with the items, the recommendation was to recycle. That has changed. Now, Montgomery County recommends that if the item is questionable to just throw it in the trash. He explained that everything co-mingled, whether it is picked up by the scooters or dropped off in the container at Creager Field, is taken to Rumpke where it is dumped on their sorting floor. Rumpke then goes through the material and it is separated as needed.
Mayor Duncan commented that there is information about recycling on our website.
Mr. Klopsch added that the City refuse handbook is available online, as well as a link to Rumpke’s website that provides information about recycling.
CITY MANAGER’S COMMENTS – Mr. Klopsch shared that at the July council meeting, Montgomery County Recorder Brandon McClain provided information on property title fraud prevention throughout Montgomery County and on the new Veteran ID card program. Mr. Klopsch said that he recently went to get his Veteran ID card. He added that it was neat to see all of the Veterans putting value in the card. He thanked Mr. McClain for offering this to Veterans.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Mayor Duncan welcomed all of the visitors in the audience. He shared that he had the opportunity to represent the City at the Dayton History Wright Brothers Exhibit Grand Opening. The original 1905 Wright Flyer airplane was on display. He shared that the 1905 plane is really where the Wright Brothers learned how to fly. Mayor Duncan also attended the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI, and the 71st anniversary of the creation of the Air Force. He shared they showed videos, and heard from a liaison from the United Kingdom.
