FEBRUARY 6, 2023 COUNCIL MEETING

City Council met in public session on February 6, 2023. Here are the highlights.

Council meeting minutes were approved for the January 9, 2023 regular session and work session, and January 23 work session and executive session.

STATUS REPORTS

  • 2023 State of the City Address – Mayor Bill Duncan delivered the 2023 State of the City Address.
  • Citizen Committee Appointments – City Council reappointed Megan Kavanaugh (Precinct C) and Michael Hayes (Precinct E) to the Budget Review Committee; Greg Lauterbach to the Planning Commission; Alex Heckman (Precinct C) to the Property Maintenance Board; Peter Davies to the Beautification Committee, and appointed Jim Vaughn (Precinct G) and Raya Whalen (Precinct H) to the Budget Review Committee.

VISITORS

State Representative Andrea White congratulated Council and city staff for all of their great work as mentioned in the Mayor’s State of the City Address. She encouraged citizens to contact District 36 for assistance by emailing rep36@ohiohouse.gov or calling (614) 644-6008.

LEGISLATION

Oakwood City Council approved the following legislation:

  • A Resolution to approve the 2024 ODOT guardrail project on Far Hills Avenue.
  • A Resolution to approve the 2024 ODOT resurfacing project on Far Hills Avenue.

STAFF REPORT

  • Public Safety Department Presentation: Chief Alan Hill, Public Safety Director, referenced a PowerPoint presentation and updated Council on the following topics: Crime Statistics; EMS Trends; Fire Trends; Personnel Changes; In-service Training Program; the Citizen Police Academy; Medic 27 and School District Partnership.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

City Manager Norbert Klopsch recognized and thanked Chief Hill, and then provided an update on the following: the yard debris disposal program; challenges the Public Works Department faces during the winter months; the repaving of Far Hills Avenue next year; the city website and the 2023 budget book. Mr. Klopsch commended Clerk of Council Lori Stacel for her fine work as website administrator.

COUNCIL COMMENTS

  • Councilmember Leigh Turben shared that the Oakwood Historical Society and Dayton History announced the return of the Wright at Home event scheduled for Sunday, April 23. Additional information on the event will be available in the April/May Oakwood Scene newsletter.
  • Vice Mayor Steve Byington congratulated Dr. Neil Gupta on being selected as the new Oakwood Schools superintendent. He commended the Oakwood Schools on their unique selection process that involved students, staff, parents and the community in the interview process.
