• Coordinates traffic engineering activities with Police, Fire, Planning, Parking, and external agencies.
• Supervises and trains engineering and technical staff.
• Reviews development proposals for traffic impacts and required mitigation.
• Prepares and signs engineering drawings, reports, and legal documents.
• Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

• Municipal traffic engineering, transportation planning, multimodal safety, and traffic operations.
• Applicable State and Federal regulations, including CA MUTCD.
• Traffic study techniques, traffic models, speed surveys, and safety investigations.
• Principles of supervision, budgeting, and program administration.
• Engineering and traffic operations software.

ABILITY TO:

• Serve effectively as the statutory City Traffic Engineer with independent judgment.
• Develop and implement traffic engineering policies and standards.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
• Conduct and interpret traffic operational studies and analyses.
• Communicate complex information clearly to various audiences.
• Develop, manage, and deliver complex traffic engineering projects.
• Maintain effective working relationships.
• Use computers and engineering software effectively.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Six (6) years of progressively responsible engineering experience, including complex traffic engineering work and at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
• A master’s degree may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

LICENSES:

• Current valid registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California.
• Current valid registration as a Professional Traffic Engineer (TE) in the State of California.
• Valid driver’s license.
