OAKWOOD CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION

JANUARY 6, 2025

The Council of the city of Oakwood, Ohio, met in a work session on Monday, January 6, 2025 in the conference room at the city building, 30 Park Avenue. The Mayor of the City, William Duncan, presided.

Council members in attendance were Mayor William Duncan, Vice Mayor Steve Byington, Rob Stephens, Leigh Turben and Healy Jackson. Staff in attendance were City Manager Katie Smiddy and City Attorney Rob Jacques. Jen Balduf, a Dayton Daily News reporter, was also in attendance.

Mayor Duncan called the work session to order at 6:30 p.m. and reviewed the agenda for the regular session this evening. Thereafter, he led a discussion on the following agenda items:

  • STATUS REPORTS: Council discussed the following status reports that are scheduled for the regular session this evening:
    • PSO Swear-in: Mayor Duncan mentioned that he will administer the Oath of Office to Public Safety Officers Chris Warrick and Natalie Flory. Chief Hill will introduce them.
    • Council Committee Assignments: There was a brief discussion and Mayor Duncan confirmed that Council would keep the assignments unchanged for 2025.
    • Citizen Committee Appointments: Mayor Duncan mentioned that he will call for a vote at the regular session this evening to make several reappointments.
  • VISITORS:
    • Holiday Decorating Awards: Mayor Duncan will recognize award winners as pictures of their homes are displayed.
  • LEGISLATION: Council discussed the following item of legislation scheduled for the regular session this evening:
    • A Resolution approving the Montgomery County Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan.
  • MISCELLANEOUS
    • Committee Appointments: Council reviewed the current list of suggested appointments and briefly discussed the same.
    • Administrative Updates: City Manager Katie Smiddy and Law Director Rob Jacques updated Council on several active projects including sewer repairs, vital statistics, Fiber to Smith Gardens, and HB 315.

At 7:23 p.m., Mayor Duncan concluded the work session and Council moved to regular session.
