The body of Claude McCormick, 40, Oakwood police officer who was fatally injured when his motorcycle skidded on car tracks at Far Hills av. and Harmon av. Monday afternoon, will be taken to Leavenworth, Kas., Thursday, for burial. Friends may view the remains at the residence, 105 Patterson rd., Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
At first it was believed that McCormick was not hurt seriously. Suffering from a cut on his forehead, he appeared at his headquarters after the mishap and reported the details. He talked with other officers and, after receiving first aid, went to his home to rest.
A few hours later he lapsed into unconsciousness and was removed to Miami Valley hospital, where he died at 11:25 p. m. Tuesday. A blood clot on his brain was believed to have caused his death.
McCormick had been a member of the Oakwood department for about four years. Most of that time he served as a traffic officer. The death brought traffic fatalities to 42 for the year.
Survivors include the widow, Anna, and his mother, Mrs. Mollie McCormick of Leavenworth. McCormick had lived here since 1910. The body was removed to the Whitmer funeral parlors.
