JANUARY 2, 2018 COUNCIL MEETING
City Council met in public session on January 2, 2018. Here are the highlights.
ORGANIZATION MEETING
- City Attorney Rob Jacques administered the Oath of Office to Rob Stephens and Anne Hilton who were elected for another 4-year term on city council.
- City Council re-elected Bill Duncan as mayor and Steve Byington as vice mayor.
Council meeting minutes were approved for the December 11, 2017 regular, work session and executive session.
STATUS REPORT
- Captain Promotion – Mayor Bill Duncan presided over a ceremony to promote Lieutenant Kevin Pruszynski to the rank of captain. Chief Hill assisted and reviewed the highlights of Captain Pruszynski’s career.
- Recognition of Crew #1 Lifesaving Actions – Chief Alan Hill recognized Crew #1 for their life-saving actions at the November 6, 2017 council meeting.
- Council Committee Assignments – City Council approved their 2018 committee assignments.
- Citizen Committee Appointments – City Council appointed the following Oakwood residents to citizen committees:
William Stephens, ADA Compliance Committee, Charles Campbell (Precinct A), Howard Boose (Precinct B), Frederick Dudding (Precinct B), Brian Huelsman (Precinct C), Leigh Turben (Precinct C) and Jim Broz (Precinct E) to the Budget Review Committee; Darrell Apt, Stanley Herr and Jane Lieberth to the Environmental Committee; Harrison Gowdy to the Planning Commission; Cheryl Young (Precinct D) to the Property Maintenance Board, and Arik Sherk to the Tax/Water & Sewer/Assembly Appeals Board.
VISITORS
- Holiday Decorating Awards – Mayor Bill Duncan and Environmental Committee members Nancy Drozd and Jane Lieberth recognized winners of the 2017 December holiday home decorating contest.
- Two Oakwood residents addressed Council regarding the proposed tax legislation. They both suggested that the tax should be imposed on all Oakwood residents and not just those who work outside the city of Oakwood.
LEGISLATION
Oakwood City Council approved the following legislation:
- A Resolution to recognize Jay Weiskircher for 35+ years of public service to Oakwood.
- An Ordinance to approve an Income Tax Credit Reduction Factor. Click
CITY MANAGER’S COMMENTS
City Manager Norbert Klopsch stated that it was wonderful recognizing the Public Safety Department this evening. He commended the Leisure Services Department on their recent activity brochure that contained many different program and events, and thanked Leisure Services Director Carol Collins and her staff. He also gave a shout out to the Public Works Department for all of their efforts during the cold weather.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
- Councilmember Rob Stephens congratulated Captain Pruszynski on his promotion. He said that the promotion is well deserved and he will do a great job. He then thanked his wife, children and parents for their continued support of his work on City Council.
- Vice Mayor Steve Byington congratulated Mr. Weiskircher on his retirement. He also congratulated Councilmembers Stephens and Hilton on their re-election. He commented that Oakwood is fortunate to have active, caring and engaged residents.
- Mayor Bill Duncan thanked City Council for re-electing him as mayor and Steve Byington as vice mayor. He mentioned that Dorothy Lane Market is celebrating their 70th anniversary this year.
