Chairperson Hansen welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Chairperson Hansen introduced the agenda item and read from an article published by SkillsUSA. “The 2024 WorldSkills USA Team will have an amazing opportunity to represent SkillsUSA and our nation while undergoing incredibly rigorous training in their craft,” said SkillsUSA Executive Director Chelle Travis. “These team members are making a serious commitment to both their skill development and personal growth that will foster their drive, passion, and life’s purpose.

Hansen is a welding student at Utah State University Eastern (USUE) in Price, Utah. He represented the state of Utah at the SkillsUSA Championships in 2022 and 2023 and won a national gold medal in Welding in 2023. He says, “It’s a privilege to be a part of the team, and it’s an honor to represent the U.S. in Lyon, France. I’ve dreamed of being a WorldSkills competitor, and now I will be. I’ve been training for 15-16 hours a day, six to seven days a week, for the past eight months to get where I am today.

Wyatt Hansen introduced himself and described his background and when he was inspired to become a welder. He started in the UB Tech welding program and then went to USUE. Each Commissioner praised him for representing the County very well. Sarah Hansen, his mother, spoke and expressed how proud she was of him and his accomplishments. Wyatt thanked everyone for their support.

Public Works Director Mike Casper gave an update on existing projects and upcoming work. The chip-sealing projects are going well. They will move to Red Creek, Neola, Roosevelt, Altamont, Ledge Lane, Cedarview Cemetary Road, and Rock Creek. He received a call about a culvert plugged with debris by C&S Meats. He will visit the area today to ensure no further issues have arisen.

Public Works Deputy Director Clint Curtis presented information on a 2024 Ram 5500 Chassis Tradesman Crew Cab. He explained that the two-ton truck ordered last year is still delayed and won’t be ready for at least a year. He found this truck on the lot in Price, Utah. A bed for the truck will need to be purchased separately, but Innovated Customs has them in stock. The parties discussed the purchase. Commissioner Miles made a motion to approve the purchase of the new two-ton Ram Truck and bypass the procurement requirements due to availability for $78,815.91. Commissioner Killian seconded the motion. Commissioner Miles voted aye, Commissioner Killian voted aye, and Commissioner Hansen voted aye. The motion passed.
