Mayor Duncan asked if there will be road closures when construction begins on the Ridgeway Road Bridge.
Mr. Klopsch answered yes, and explained that the city of Kettering is currently working on vehicular and pedestrian detour maps and signage in consultation with Oakwood and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Mr. Stephens asked when the leaf collection schedule will be available.
Mr. Klopsch shared that the collection schedule is currently on the City’s website, and the schedule will also be published in the Oakwood Scene newsletter.
CITY MANAGER’S COMMENTS
Mr. Klopsch thanked Finance Director Cindy Stafford and the Finance Department for their hard work and successful 2018 audit. He then thanked Leisure Services Director Carol Collins and Program Supervisor Karen Earley for another successful pool season. Program Supervisor Karen Earley is directly responsible for operating Gardner Pool, including staffing, concessions, cleaning, ongoing maintenance and then closing the pool.
The citizen Budget Review Committee met last week for the first time this fall. The proposed capital plan for 2020 was presented to the Budget Review Committee, and the plan was well received. City staff is working on a detailed line item budget that will be presented to the Budget Review Committee at their next meeting on Tuesday, October 15.
The first class of this year’s Citizens Police Academy took place last Wednesday evening. The program offers a ten-week course free of charge to the citizens of the Oakwood community. Chief Alan Hill was the presenter in the first class and shared that the twelve citizens attending are eager to learn the functions of the Public Safety Department.
Mr. Klopsch closed his comments by mentioning his alma mater, West Point, and the Army football team. Army is now 2–1. Army beat University of Texas San Antonio last Saturday. The week before, Army forced the University of Michigan (at “The Big House”) into double overtime before narrowly losing by three points. Mr. Klopsch shared that he will be attending his 35th college reunion at West Point later this week.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Mrs. Hilton shared that she recently attended two events sponsored by Wright Library: Storytime at Smith Gardens and Read-a-Thon on the Lawn. She also attended the annual Classics on the Lawn Car Show hosted by the Oakwood Historical Society. All were great events.
Mrs. Jessica Rutter, 361 East Drive, asked if she could speak to Council. She explained that Dayton Power & Light recently completed tree trimming around her property, and her yard was not left in the best of conditions. She shared concerns about dried out branches hanging on wires. She asked if someone could help her address these concerns.
Mr. Klopsch gathered Mrs. Rutter’s contact information, and shared that he would have Foreman/Engineering Technician Tom Long contact her.
