- Mrs. Smiddy discussed a recent meeting with the Oakwood Inclusion Coalition (OIC) and Dr. Gupta regarding the OIC “Longest Table” event. OIC will staff the event; the school district will provide restroom access at Mack Hummon Stadium; and the City will coordinate the closure of Schantz Avenue and provide a dumpster. The event is scheduled for June 4, with a rain date of June 11.
- Mrs. Smiddy provided a hiring update. Adam Jones has been promoted to the Utility Foreman position. Negotiations with one candidate for the Water Plant Superintendent role fell through, and we are now working on an offer with another candidate. The Recreation Specialist position will be posted this week. Interviews for a General Service Worker position are ongoing. The Parks Foreman/Arborist position is currently posted.
- Mr. Jacques informed Council of recent public records requests that resulted in a letter to the editor published in the Oakwood Register. The requester is a frequent filer who expressed dissatisfaction that the City does not maintain custody or control of state statutes.
- Mrs. Jackson inquired about the status of the Old River field study; Mrs. Smiddy responded.
- Mrs. Turben asked about the timeline for Grunder Landscaping to begin mowing City properties; Mrs. Smiddy responded.
- Mrs. Jackson asked about the condition of a shed structure at Lane Stadium that is in disrepair; Mrs. Smiddy responded.
- Mr. Dorf asked whether there had been any additional communication from a resident regarding concerns about Flock cameras; Mr. Jacques responded.
- Mr. Dorf noted that he had shared information with Mrs. Smiddy regarding potential grant opportunities.
- Mr. Jacques advised Council that residents may contact Councilmembers regarding the upcoming pickleball proposal to be considered in May. He also reviewed procedures related to quasi-judicial public hearings.
At 7:24 p.m., Mayor Duncan concluded the work session, and Council moved to regular session.
