Attends meetings and seminars to maintain current knowledge of applicable laws and regulations and new testing and inspection equipment and proper operating procedures.

Testifies in legal proceedings and court.

Performs related duties as assigned.

I. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or HSE.

Possession of and/or ability to obtain and maintain inspection training programs, with certification from Indiana State Weights & Measures Department.

Ability to meet all department hiring requirements, including passage of drug test and written exam.

Practical knowledge of all federal, state, and local rules, regulations and laws concerning the proper use and maintenance of weighing and measuring devices.

Practical knowledge of accepted principles and practices concerning the inspection and testing of measurement and weighing devices, with ability to ensure compliance with legal requirements and effectively apply appropriate inspection and testing procedures.

Working knowledge of various scales, sensitivity requirements, and ratio (load) tests and ability to properly operate and maintain electronic, computerized, and mechanical testing equipment.

Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to prepare correspondence and detailed reports as required. Ability to maintain accurate and organized records.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, State of Indiana Weights and Measures, Indiana Weights and Measures inspectors, Indiana Association of Weights and Measures, NIST, business owners and managers, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.

Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of Department information and records according to state requirements.

Shall comply with all employer and Department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.

Ability to understand, memorize, retain and carry out written or oral instructions and present findings in oral or written form.

Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment, work on several tasks at the same time, occasionally under time pressure.
