    • Shafor Park Tennis Courts: Mr. Klopsch explained that major demolition of the old tennis facility will take place over the next 2-3 weeks. Assuming good weather over the roughly three month construction period, the project should be completed by late July or early August.
  • Public Utilities/Waterworks/Sewer, Mr. Epley
    • 2017 Water Reports: Mr. Klopsch confirmed that the city website now has posted the Drinking Water Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) for 2017, and also the 2017 Water Production Annual Report.
  • Streets & Alleys, Mr. Stephens
    • 2018 Vectren Project: Major construction work on East Drive is scheduled to begin in late May and will continue through the summer. This work will involve installation of a replacement 16" gas pipe on East Drive between Shroyer Road and Shafor Boulevard.
    • 2018 Asphalt Resurfacing: The 2018 Asphalt Mill and Overlay project is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, July 9. Work this year will take place on Hadley Road, Hadley Avenue, Deep Hollow Road, Wiltshire Boulevard, and Acorn Drive between Dellwood and Patterson.
REGIONAL AGENCIES
  • First Suburbs, Vice Mayor Byington
    • First Suburbs Priority Issues: Mr. Klopsch presented a draft list of issues being discussed by the First Suburbs Consortium of Dayton. The First Suburbs group has asked each member city to assist in prioritizing these issues. Mr. Klopsch will see that Oakwood's priority ranking is submitted by the May 21 deadline.
BOARDS & COMMISSIONS
  • Environmental Committee, Mr. Stephens
    • New Committee Member: Vice Mayor Byington reported that Oakwood resident Heidi Susta has agreed to serve as a member of the Environmental Committee.
  • Historical Society, Mrs. Hilton
    • Property Database: Mr. Klopsch explained that the Oakwood Historical Society is considering options for establishing a community-wide database to include architectural information about each residential property. Staff will meet with the Historical Society in early June to discuss how such a database might be assembled and maintained.
MISCELLANEOUS
  • Dayton Arcade Project: Mr. Klopsch mentioned that he was recently contacted by the Dayton City Manager requesting Oakwood's support of a $500,000 ED/GE grant application from Dayton for funding related to the Arcade Project. Mr. Klopsch briefly reviewed a PowerPoint presentation on the topic. Council noted that Mr. Stephens is Council's representative on the ED/GE Committee. Mr. Stephens explained that he recently attended a meeting where the presentation was delivered and that he is inclined to vote to approve the grant.
  • May 21 Work Session: Mr. Klopsch explained that there is currently no pressing agenda so the May 21 work session will likely be cancelled.
  • May 8 -17 Vacation: Mr. Klopsch reminded Council that he will be in Germany from Tuesday, May 8 through Thursday, May 17 returning to work on Friday, May 18. Consistent with established protocol, Carol Collins will serve as acting city manager during this period.
