RE: Support for Designation of a Portion of Interstate 69 as the "Corporal Blake Reynolds Memorial Highway"

To the Members of the Indiana General Assembly and the Indiana Department of Transportation:

The Delaware County Board of Commissioners respectfully submits this letter in strong support of legislation and all necessary administrative actions to designate a portion of Interstate 69 at mile marker 247 in Delaware County as the "Corporal Blake Reynolds Memorial Highway."

On the morning of November 12, 2025, Delaware County suffered a devastating loss when Corporal Blake Reynolds of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office was killed in the line of duty while serving and protecting the citizens of our community. His death represents the ultimate sacrifice in service to others and serves as a solemn reminder of the dangers faced daily by law enforcement officers throughout Indiana.

Corporal Reynolds dedicated his career to public service and embodied the highest ideals of law enforcement: integrity, courage, professionalism, and commitment to community. He answered the call to protect others without hesitation and made the ultimate sacrifice while carrying out that duty. His loss has been felt not only within the Sheriff's Office but throughout Delaware County and across Indiana's law enforcement community.

The proposed memorial designation is particularly appropriate because the segment of Interstate 69 under consideration is directly associated with the location where Corporal Reynolds gave his life in service to the public. Naming this portion of the highway in his honor would provide a lasting tribute to his sacrifice and serve as a visible reminder to future generations of the dedication and bravery exhibited by Indiana's law enforcement officers.
