This year’s Ice Cream Social will take place on Sunday, August 10. This event is an excellent opportunity for residents to engage with one another, as well as with City Council and City Staff.
The Oakwood Public Safety Department is accepting applications for the 2025 Citizen Police Academy (CPA). The program provides a hands-on look at the functions of the Oakwood Public Safety Department and fosters engagement with public safety personnel. There is no cost associated with participation in this program.

Mrs. Jackson shared that Oakwood residents aged 60 and older are invited to enjoy free evening access to Gardner Pool from 6 to 8 p.m. daily. The purpose is to create opportunities for connection.
Mrs. Turben extended her congratulations to Theresa and Greg Hammonds, along with the entire team at Ashley’s Pastry Shop, for receiving the Better Business Bureau Integrity Award and the Golden Torch Award. Additionally, she recognized Ashley’s Pastry Shop for commemorating its 43rd-anniversary last month.
Mr. Stephens provided his insights regarding the merger between MVCC and MVECA, highlighting its advantages for both organizations. He expressed his gratitude to MVCC Director Jay Weiskircher for his dedicated efforts in leading this initiative.
Vice Mayor Byington addressed HB 335, urging the community to stay informed about the state legislature’s actions to ensure they are serving the public’s best interests. He expressed gratitude to the Oakwood Rotary for displaying flags along Far Hills Avenue in celebration of the Fourth of July holiday. Additionally, he highlighted that the Oakwood Farmers’ Market is now open and encouraged residents to visit. In conclusion, he reminded everyone to be vigilant for children playing during the summer months.
Mayor Duncan shared an email received from a resident recognizing an Oakwood employee, Stan Grow, who went out of his way to interact with kids setting up a lemonade stand. He congratulated Oakwood High School student and neighbor Tristan Williams on earning the title of national finalist in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate and taking third place in the national competition. Additionally, Mayor Duncan recognized Oakwood Detective Kasey Ballinger for her involvement in the recent arrest of Vincent Nzigiyimfura, a known human rights violator from Rwanda who played a role in the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
