OAKWOOD CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION

FEBRUARY 7, 2022

The Council of the city of Oakwood, Ohio, met in a work session on Monday, February 7, 2022 in the second-floor training room at the city building, 30 Park Avenue. The Mayor of the City, William Duncan, presided.

Council members in attendance were Mayor William Duncan, Vice Mayor Steve Byington, Councilmember Rob Stephens, Councilmember Anne Hilton and Councilmember Leigh Turben. Staff in attendance were City Manager Norbert Klopsch and City Attorney Rob Jacques.

Mayor Duncan called the work session to order at 6:30 p.m. and reviewed the agenda for the regular session this evening. Thereafter, he led a discussion on the following agenda items:

  • STATUS REPORTS: Council discussed the following status reports that are scheduled for the regular session this evening:
    • 2022 State of the City Address: Mayor Duncan noted that he will deliver the 2022 Address at the regular session this evening.
    • Citizen Committee Appointments: Mayor Duncan mentioned that he will call for a vote at the regular session this evening to reappoint two citizens to committees.
    • Captain Promotion: Mayor Duncan mentioned that a ceremony will be held this evening to promote Lieutenant Mike Tanner to the rank of captain.
  • VISITORS:
    • Montgomery County Board of Elections Director Jeff Rezabek: Mayor Duncan noted that Mr. Rezabek will provide an update on the redistricting of Montgomery County precincts and polling locations.
  • LEGISLATION: Council discussed the following legislation scheduled for presentation at the regular session this evening:
    • An Ordinance to adopt an updated Property Maintenance Code, Vice Mayor Byington
    • An Ordinance to appropriate $150,000 for engineering services on the Far Hills Storm Sewer Reconstruction project, Vice Mayor Byington
    • A Resolution to change Budget Review Committee membership to four per each of the eight precincts, Vice Mayor Byington
    • An Ordinance to adjust the boundary lines between the city of Oakwood and the city of Kettering, Vice Mayor Byington
  • STAFF REPORT: Mr. Klopsch noted that Chief Hill will deliver a PowerPoint presentation at the regular session this evening.
  • AN OAKWOOD MOMENT: Mrs. Turben shared that she invited Green Oakwood member Cheryl Lloyd to speak about the January 8 Styrofoam Recycling Event. Council discussed protocols for future Oakwood Moment presentations.
