5. AUTHORIZED DATA COLLECTION

UAS data may only be collected during authorized missions including, but not limited to:

  • Search and rescue
  • Crime scene documentation
  • Traffic accident reconstruction
  • Emergency management or disaster assessment
  • Tactical operations
  • Active investigations
  • Training flights
  • Public demonstrations when approved by command

Recreational or non-sanctioned UAS collection is prohibited.

6. DATA STORAGE PROCEDURES

A. Transfer of Data

  1. 1. All data must be transferred from the UAS device to the secure VCSO digital evidence management system as soon as practicable after mission completion.

B. Storage Requirements

  1. 1. All UAS files shall be stored in an encrypted, CJIS-compliant digital evidence system.
  2. 2. Files must be properly labeled using the following format:
    UAV-(CAD CFS #)
  3. 3. Access to UAS data shall be permission-restricted.
  4. 4. Only the Program Manager or Deputy Manager may modify classification or retention schedules.
