Mrs. Smiddy shared that the annual New Resident Breakfast will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14. The event is intended to welcome new residents and connect them with City staff, community resources, and fellow residents.

COUNCIL COMMENTS

Mr. Dorf reported that he recently observed proceedings at Oakwood Municipal Court and commended the court staff for their professionalism and commitment to ensuring the justice system is administered with dignity and respect.

Mrs. Jackson extended her thoughts and prayers for those directly connected to ongoing U.S. military operations in the Middle East. She also announced that Oakwood City Schools Superintendent Dr. Gupta will present the State of the Schools address on Monday, March 9, at 7:00 p.m., and encouraged residents to attend and remain engaged in the community. Mrs. Jackson also noted her appreciation for seeing a resident suggestion presented at a Council meeting develop into a city program.

Mrs. Turben reminded parents and guardians of children riding e-bikes to review traffic safety laws with them. She noted that e-bike riders must follow the same traffic rules as other vehicles, including obeying traffic signs. She emphasized the importance of safety as e-bikes continue to grow in popularity.

Vice Mayor Byington noted that several residents were recently appointed to serve on various City boards and commissions and encouraged community members to submit applications to serve, highlighting the value of diverse experience and perspectives.

Mayor Duncan reported that the Budget Review Committee (BRC) typically meets four times per year to provide advice and recommendations to Council regarding the City’s budget, including planning for the 2027 budget. He recognized Howard Boose, who is stepping down after 32 years of service on the committee, and thanked him for his longstanding dedication to the City.
