Mrs. Smiddy recognized the Oakwood employees with April birthdays and work anniversaries. She then announced a new partnership with SwimSafe Pool Company to manage Gardner Pool operations.

COUNCIL COMMENTS

Mrs. Jackson shared that she enjoyed meeting new Oakwood residents at the New Resident Breakfast. The new residents met City Council, City Staff, the Oakwood Municipal Court Judge, and representatives from the school and library. She encouraged people to attend the “Wright at Home” event on Sunday, April 26, and to start scheduling block parties.

Mrs. Turben discussed the history of the Great Flood of 1913.

Vice Mayor Byington said that it does his heart good to hear kids say the Pledge of Allegiance and appreciates when kids are civically engaged. He encouraged people to contact their Ohio state senator to express their opposition to potential cuts to the Ohio Public Library Fund.

Mayor Duncan shared the sad news that Oakwood resident and long-time Budget Review Committee member Fred Dudding passed away. He then reported on the following: Senator Willis Blackshear met with the Oakwood Public Safety Department to learn about the City, the Department, and the services that the department provides to the community; Lieutenant Chuck Balaj presented information on the Oregon District mass shooting at the US Army Worldwide Terrorism Web Conference on behalf of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force; the 2023 Oakwood Annual Report has been honored with a Silver 2025 Print Excellence Award by Graphic Media Alliance; and, the Coffee with a Cop event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Wright Memorial Public Library.
