Dr. Jessica Minor, 230 Patterson Road, encouraged the City to explore additional opportunities for inclusive programming at the Oakwood Community Center for children and adults with disabilities.
Megan Turner, 284 W. Schantz Avenue, echoed concerns about inclusion and emphasized the importance of ensuring all instructors are prepared to support individuals with special needs.
David Woods, 3230 Lakeview Avenue, spoke about outstanding matters with a local hospital in relation to a family member.

The annual Ice Cream Social will be held on Sunday, August 10, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Shafor Park. Sponsored by AltaFiber and Dorothy Lane Market, this year’s event will include special guest appearances by princesses and Marvel Universe characters.
The Miami Valley Communication Council has secured a natural gas rate of $7.195 per MCF with Archer Energy. The rate will be fixed for a 19-month contract term running from November 2025 through May 2027. Program details will be shared with residents and businesses in mid-September. Oakwood will participate on an opt-in basis, meaning participation will not be automatic. Residents must affirmatively elect to participate. An update on electric aggregation is expected within the next 10 days.
The City hosted its first Family Fun Swim Night at Gardner Pool on Saturday, July 26. Following positive feedback, a second event is scheduled for this Saturday from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Swimsafe recognized Gardner Memorial Pool as the Swimming Pool of the Month for June. This honor is awarded to facilities that demonstrate strong safety practices, efficient operations, and exceptional staff performance. The Oakwood team was commended for its excellence in all areas.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Mrs. Jackson recognized Oakwood resident Connor Seals for winning the National Yo-Yo Championship on June 29, 2025. She extended best wishes as he prepares to compete in the World Championship in Prague next weekend.
Mrs. Turben shared that a resident recently commended Lori Stacel as an “awesome employee.” She also noted that an introductory letter will be sent to businesses ahead of the upcoming Business Walk and encouraged everyone to mark their calendars. Mrs. Turben highlighted that over 20% of Oakwood business owners are also residents.
Mr. Stephens reminded the community to prioritize safety as the start of the school year approaches.
Mayor Duncan echoed Mr. Stephens’ message on safety and shared a personal story related to a motorcycle accident.
