- Mrs. Smiddy discussed the upcoming Ice Cream Social, including partnerships with Green Oakwood, AltaFiber, and Dorothy Lane Market.
- Mrs. Smiddy informed Council that the Finance Department is looking at software solutions for the management of employee benefits and payroll. They are considering several options and providers.
- Mrs. Smiddy informed Council that she and Public Works staff met recently with representatives from the City of Dayton’s water department. Discussions involved the possibility of partnering with Dayton for an upcoming water filtration project, or utilitizing Dayton for a broader scope of services related to our water utility.
- Mrs. Smiddy updated Council on her recent meeting with the Beautification Committee. The committee has proposed that beautification awards be awarded once per summer, with nominations to be made around the 4th of July and awards to be announced at the Ice Cream Social.
- Mrs. Smiddy informed Council of the status of MVCC’s energy aggregation programs. She is still waiting to hear whether the electric aggregation provider will allow Oakwood to participate on an opt-in basis.
- Mayor Duncan inquired about the status of June financial statements.
- Mr. Jacques provided a brief update of code enforcement efforts this summer. Over 150 property maintenance letters were sent out in the month of June.
- Mrs. Smiddy informed Council that the City’s long-standing tree contractor, American Forestry, went out of business abruptly due to severe illness of a key employee. It is not known whether American Forestry will restart operations in the future. The City will be issuing a Request for Proposals to select a new contractor, and is using a Columbus-based firm, Green Tree, in the interim.
At 7:12, Council entered into an executive session for Personnel Matters. At 7:18 Council concluded the executive session and returned to the work session.
- Mrs. Jackson inquired as to the status of the ongoing organizational assessment being conducted by Raftelis. Mrs. Smiddy provided an update as to the anticipated timeline.
- Mrs. Jackson advised Council that she recently met with a resident who had reached out to propose a crowdfunded grant program for the Community Business District, and provided a summary of their conversation.
At 7:23 p.m., Mayor Duncan adjourned the work session, and Council moved to regular session.
