A RESOLUTION TO CONTINUE PARTICIPATION IN A MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT.
A copy of the resolution, having been placed on the desks of each member of Council prior to introduction, was read by title.
Mayor Duncan explained that since 2004, Oakwood has participated in the Montgomery County Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan, a countywide emergency management and mitigation plan to address regional vulnerability to natural disasters. The plan was last updated in 2019, at which time Council adopted Resolution No. 1858 to authorize the City's continued participation.
The plan has now been updated for 2025. This resolution will authorize Oakwood's continued participation in ways that are feasible and appropriate to the City's needs, resources, and responsibilities in the community.
Thereupon, it was moved by Mayor Duncan and seconded by Vice Mayor Byington that the resolution be passed.
Upon call of the roll on the question of the motion, the following vote was recorded:
There being five (5) yea votes and no (0) nay votes thereon, said resolution was declared duly passed and it was so ordered.
CITY MANAGER'S COMMENTS
Mrs. Smiddy welcomed Oakwood's new hires Lisa Gower as the assistant finance director and Joe O'Brien as a general service worker.
Mrs. Smiddy gave kudos to the Public Works Department for their efforts in addressing the snow conditions yesterday evening into today.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Mrs. Jackson encouraged participation in the Oakwood Public Safety Assisting and Contributing to Oakwood Resident Needs (ACORN) Program. The program provides proactive community outreach, implementing safety plans, and advocating for the well-being of Oakwood's senior and at-risk population.
Mrs. Turben wished everyone a happy new year. She then provided an overview of the Oakwood Sister City Program and shared that the Sister City Association is hosting a wine-tasting event at the OCC on Saturday, February 22, and an international tennis tournament in Outremont, Canada.
Mr. Stephens reminded residents that vehicles should be removed from the street when heavy snowfall is predicted. It is safer and easier to remove snow when the streets are clear of vehicles.
Mayor Duncan shared that several Public Safety Officers were recognized at the Kettering Regional SWAT end-of-year team event. Public Safety Officer Ryan Wells received the 2024 Team Rookie of the Year, and Public Safety Officer Matt Staley received the 2024 Teamwork Award. Detective Kasey Ballinger was recognized by TCSU Director Bob Green as Oakwood's TCSU investigator of the year. Mayor Duncan recognized the Public Safety Department for making Oakwood a safe community.
