  • Private Fire Hydrants: Mr. Klopsch explained that staff will send a follow-up letter to owners of private hydrants reminding them of the August 31, 2021 deadline to test hydrants and replace those that do not meet city standards.

  • Oakwood Inclusion Coalition, Mr. Klopsch
    • Summer Big Read: The Oakwood Inclusion Coalition (OIC) is hosting virtual book discussions for a summer initiative. The OIC selected Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson as their first “Big Read” for the summer.
    • July 29 OIC Meeting/Picnic: The OIC is planning a food truck picnic for the July 29 quarterly meeting/event.
• MISCELLANEOUS
  • 2021 Committee Needs: Mayor Duncan noted that this year’s committee needs are almost complete, other than filling a vacant spot on the Property Maintenance Board. A potential candidate has been contacted and is waiting for a response.
  • Council Agenda – Moment in Oakwood: Mrs. Turben recommended that City Council dedicate time near the end of each council meeting to display pictures of Oakwood events and/or residents as “An Oakwood Moment”.
  • Ice Cream Social – August 22: Mr. Klopsch shared that this year’s Ice Cream Social has been scheduled for 4 – 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 22 at Shafor Park. Staff will purchase pre-packaged ice cream for this 2021 event.
  • Employee Picnic/Retirement Recognition – August 6: Mr. Klopsch noted that the employee picnic is scheduled for 12 noon on Friday, August 6. The picnic will include recognizing recent retirements that could not be celebrated over the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • July 19 Council Meeting: Mr. Klopsch mentioned that he will be out of town for the July 19 meeting, so Ms. Collins will be sitting in his place.
  • State Champions Recognition at August 2 Council Meeting: Mr. Klopsch shared that we invited the 2020-21 Oakwood High School State Champions to the August 2 council meeting. We will recognize the Oakwood High School Girls Track & Field Team, along with students Sarah Hall and Natalie Connelly for winning the state title in doubles tennis, and Sam Campbell for winning the title in swimming for the 500-yard freestyle.
