The Council of the city of Oakwood, Ohio, met in a work session on Monday, October 2, 2017 in the conference room of the Oakwood Municipal Building, 30 Park Avenue. The Mayor of the city, William Duncan, presided.

Council members in attendance were Mayor William Duncan, Vice Mayor Steve Byington, Councilmember Rob Stephens, Councilmember Anne Hilton and Councilmember Chris Epley. Staff in attendance were Assistant City Manager Jay Weiskircher, City Attorney Rob Jacques, Leisure Services Director Carol Collins and Public Safety Director Alex Bebris.

Mayor Duncan called the work session to order at 7:00 p.m. and reviewed the agenda for the regular session this evening.

There was a general discussion on safety issues associated with bicyclists using the sidewalks. Mr. Jacques explained that while Oakwood does not have an ordinance prohibiting this practice, to the extent it is causing concerns among walk users, our Public Safety Officers can encourage bicyclists to stay off the sidewalks. Also, reckless operation is prohibited by law and can be addressed if the Safety Department is notified.

Thereafter, Mayor Duncan led a discussion on the following agenda items:

• STATUS REPORTS
  • Mayor Duncan noted that he will make some comments about the Kasich administration at the regular session this evening.
• VISITORS
  • Mayor Duncan mentioned that Dr. Sallie Wilson will make some comments about the annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk to fight suicide that is scheduled to take place in Oakwood at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 22.
  • Mayor Duncan noted that Madeline Iseli will comment on the Sinclair property tax renewal that will be on the November 7 ballot.
• LEGISLATION: Council discussed the following item of legislation on the agenda for the regular session this evening:
