COUNCIL COMMENTS

Mr. Dorf expressed his gratitude to the City Council, city staff, residents, friends, and family for the opportunity to serve the Oakwood community.

Mrs. Jackson welcomed Mr. Dorf to the City Council. She recognized Oakwood residents for their contributions in making Oakwood a successful city, particularly in December. Mrs. Jackson commended citizens who recycle cardboard, noted that almost 400 residents responded to the Parks and Recreation program survey, and acknowledged the 57 residents who attended the Energy Aggregation Program at the OCC. She also thanked the OCC youth basketball coaches, residents, and volunteers who participated in the luminaria event, the Beautification Committee for their outstanding work, Rotarians, and plow operators for working long shifts. Mrs. Jackson expressed her appreciation for the dedication of Oakwood citizens in making the city a great place to live.

Mrs. Turben thanked those who supported and encouraged her during her campaign. She stated that it is an honor and a privilege to serve on Oakwood City Council and affirmed her goal to act in the best interests of the citizens. Mrs. Turben also congratulated Oakwood Schools on being upgraded to an Aa1 rating.

Vice Mayor Byington welcomed Mr. Dorf and congratulated both him and Mrs. Turben. He praised the Oakwood community for its support of the council and city staff and commended the fantastic staff and citizens who contribute to the community. Vice Mayor Byington encouraged residents to remain engaged, provide input, and make their voices heard, and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to continue serving as Vice Mayor.

Mayor Duncan congratulated Will Blackshear on being named Senator and recognized Officer Ballinger for her exceptional work in receiving the Officer of the Year award. He stated that it was well deserved and expressed pride in seeing her acknowledged at the county level. He commented on a note from a visitor to Oakwood highlighting the quick response of Captain Balaj and other emergency responders, who arrived within three minutes and confirmed a heart attack. Fifteen minutes later, the individual was in surgery for a 100% blocked artery. The visitor credited the rapid response for a positive outcome. Mayor Duncan noted that the Dayton Foundation manages 4,368 separate funds to provide support to the community and reported $1.28 billion in assets. The Foundation’s annual report featured artwork from an Oakwood high school student.
