There being four (4) yea votes and no (0) nay votes thereon, said resolution was declared duly passed and it was so ordered.
Mrs. Smiddy reported that the City’s communications survey has been extended through the end of the month to provide additional residents with an opportunity to participate and share their preferences for receiving City communications.
She also reported that, despite less-than-ideal weather conditions, the Oakwood Pool welcomed approximately 600 visitors during opening weekend. To date, approximately 650 pool memberships have been sold, generating $164,000 in revenue.
Mrs. Smiddy noted that Oakwood Public Safety Department lieutenants and public safety officers recently participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, raising awareness and support for Special Olympics Ohio.
Finally, Mrs. Smiddy reported that bids for the City’s 2026 asphalt paving program had been received. Staff is recommending award of the contract to John R. Jurgensen Company, whose bid came in below the engineer’s estimate, resulting in favorable pricing for the City.
Mr. Dorf recognized Oakwood resident Lily Rodriguez for her outstanding accomplishments in competitive para rowing, noting that she set 18 indoor world records and recently competed in the Dogwood Junior Championship Regatta. He also highlighted a feature story about Lily that appeared in Oakwood Register and noted that she had been selected to continue her rowing career in Sarasota, Florida, before attending Marietta College this fall. Mr. Dorf also acknowledged the beginning of Pride Month, sharing that he is a member of the LGBTQ+ community and extending well wishes to all who are celebrating. He stated that Pride Month provides an opportunity for individuals to be seen and celebrate their authentic selves and invited residents to attend the Oakwood Family Pride Picnic at Shafor Park.
Mrs. Jackson congratulated the Oakwood High School Class of 2026 and wished graduates success in their future endeavors. She encouraged them to serve as positive ambassadors for the city wherever their paths may lead. Mrs. Jackson also encouraged residents to visit the Oakwood Historical Society Museum and recognized the volunteers who helped operate the museum. In addition, she promoted the Oakwood Inclusion Coalition’s Longest Table event and encouraged residents to participate. She also reminded residents to enroll in the Montgomery County property fraud notification system as a proactive measure to protect their property records.
Mrs. Turben noted that Oakwood continues to be one of the safest communities in the region, with one of the lowest crime rates. She reported that the Public Safety Department’s Facebook page, established last year, has been an effective tool for sharing news, safety information, and department updates with residents. She highlighted a current series of posts focused on e-bike safety and reminded residents of the importance of securing their vehicles. Mrs. Turben noted that recent vehicle thefts in Oakwood involved unlocked vehicles with keys left inside and encouraged residents to lock their vehicles and remove keys when not in use. She also encouraged residents to follow the Public Safety Department on Facebook for additional information and updates.
Vice Mayor Byington thanked the residents who attended the meeting and noted that public participation and shared information help Council make informed decisions and better serve the community. He also thanked the members of the Oakwood Rotary Club and other volunteers who displayed American flags along Shafor Boulevard over the Memorial Day weekend. Vice Mayor Byington acknowledged Pride Month and encouraged residents to recognize and celebrate the month within the community.
