Mr. Klopsch shared a personal incident that occurred a few days ago regarding a car break-in. He explained that his wife observed someone in their vehicle, and the thief ran off with his wallet when confronted. Mr. Klopsch immediately called Oakwood Public Safety Department to report the incident. Due to a good description provided by his wife, Public Safety Officers were able to immediately identify a possible suspect. The suspect was found within 15 minutes of the theft, and handed over the wallet. Mr. Klopsch urged everyone to always lock their vehicle doors. He then gave kudos to the Public Safety Department.

Chief Hill shared that property crimes are not isolated incidents. The Public Safety Department identifies crime patterns related to community thefts and burglaries. Chief Hill shared that after a few arrests were made this past fall, the incidents stopped. Unfortunately, Oakwood is a targeted community and thieves can create a significant amount of havoc in a short amount of time. Chief Hill urged citizens to be safe, and if citizens see something, he urged them to report their experience.

Mr. Stephens congratulated and welcomed the new Public Safety Officers. He thanked Dr. Garrison for his many years of service. He then thanked city staff for all of their hard work in 2018.

Vice Mayor Byington echoed Mr. Stephens' comments. He commented that he recognized one of the previous Board of Health members as a veterinarian. Vice Mayor Byington asked if it is standard to have a veterinarian on the board.

Mr. Klopsch responded that it is not required, but there have been veterinarians in the past, and there is currently a veterinarian on the board. There are currently a variety of medical professionals on the board, including a D.O., D.D.S., M.D., and a nurse.

As a follow up to the question from Mr. Clarke, Vice Mayor Byington asked how many City Council members have dogs. Four of the five members of Council raised their hands.

Mayor Duncan welcomed Dr. Enseleit to the Board of Health. Mayor Duncan shared that he will be providing information about the new federal tax law and answering citizen questions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10 at the Wright Memorial Public Library.
