Mr. Dorf extended belated recognition of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and commented on the community’s patriotic displays, noting strong resident participation and community spirit. He also recognized Rowan, a young resident, for establishing the “Oakwood Compost Crew,” a small-scale service collecting yard waste for composting.
Mrs. Jackson referenced the book Sidewalk Nation: The Life and Law of America’s Most Overlooked Public Resource as sidewalk replacement work is scheduled to begin the following week. She highlighted the importance of sidewalks as essential public infrastructure and encouraged residents to help preserve this valuable community asset by maintaining sidewalks adjacent to their properties in good repair.
Mrs. Turben reported on unauthorized solicitation activity by individuals claiming to represent Altafiber. No permits had been issued, and the activity was in violation of local regulations. Residents were encouraged to contact the Public Safety Department if approached.
Mayor Duncan recognized Public Safety Officer Rothenberger and Lieutenant Staley for their response to a retail theft incident at CVS during That Day in May, noting that information shared with the Tactical Crime Suppression Unit, along with the use of Flock camera technology, led to the identification and arrest of suspects, the recovery of more than $12,000 in stolen merchandise, and the disruption of a larger organized retail crime operation; he also reported attending the Gala of Hope at the Masonic Temple, where approximately $2.1 million was raised for local cancer research, and commended the contributions of Oakwood residents and community members; additionally, Mayor Duncan reported on an incident in the Hatcher’s Platt area in which Public Safety Officers apprehended a suspect following a series of related incidents, noting the suspect fled after stealing a vehicle, later crashed near the Dayton Country Club, and was ultimately taken into custody at a residence in the Southview area with assistance from the Kettering Police Department, including drone and K-9 support, and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.
