Veterans Corner at Lane Stadium: Mr. Stephens mentioned that the dedication of Veterans Corner at Lane Stadium will take place in a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 21.

Cook Park: Mr. Klopsch reported that the opening and dedication of Cook Park at the corner of Schenck Avenue and Oakwood Avenue is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 28.

Public Utilities/Waterworks/Sewer, Mr. Epley

OEPA Water System Requirements: Not discussed.

Montgomery County Solid Waste District: Mr. Klopsch and Mr. Jacques provided an update on the status of work on developing the new 5-year plan for our Montgomery County Solid Waste District. This involves increased involvement and input from member communities.

Safety & Traffic, Mr. Stephens

Shroyer Road Project: Mr. Klopsch reported that most of the work on this project is now completed. Over the next few weeks, the final work on irrigation system construction and tree planting will take place.

Bikes and Sidewalks: Mr. Klopsch confirmed that the Safety Department will work with the Oakwood Schools from time to time to remind children of the need to exercise caution when riding bicycles on sidewalks.

Stop Signs and Speed Bumps: Mr. Klopsch noted that the Safety Department recently purchased a speed sign board at a cost of about $3,200. This is a portable device that can be hung on existing street sign posts for the purpose of alerting drivers of vehicle speeds. In regard to speed issues raised on Kramer Road, staff will continue to monitor the area, with regular police enforcement as needed. Over the winter and into next spring and early summer, staff will evaluate the Kramer Road area to determine if an additional stop sign is warranted. Based on initial indicators, it is unlikely that this will be the case. Staff will also study the area along Aberdeen and Telford in response to another request for additional stop signs.

MVCC, Mr. Epley

Broadband Fiber Network Project: Mr. Klopsch confirmed that Washington Township and the Centerville Schools are no longer participating in the MVCC Fiber project. Oakwood’s financial commitment is now approximately $45,000.

BOARDS & COMMISSIONS

Planning Commission, Vice Mayor Byington

October 18 Planning Commission Meeting: Mr. Klopsch noted that the Planning Commission meets this Wednesday to discuss a Master Plan amendment at Sugar Camp/Pointe Oakwood. The request is to approve a change of the land use for approximately 4 acres from residential to commercial. It will also involve a public hearing to consider plans for a 3-story office building. Mr. Byington noted that he lives across the street from the development and will therefore be recused.

Sister City Association, Mrs. Hilton

October 21-24 Visit: Mr. Klopsch reminded Council of the three events scheduled during this 45^th anniversary celebration with Le Vésinet. The events include a Dinner Gala on Saturday, October 21; a Mayor’s Reception on Sunday, October 22; and a Mayor’s Luncheon on Monday, October 23.
