Detective Kasey Ballinger, through her role with the Miami Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, recently participated in Operation Next Door, a statewide initiative involving more than 100 law enforcement agencies. Of the 135 arrests made across Ohio, the Task Force was responsible for 23. Mrs. Smiddy congratulated Detective Ballinger on her continued leadership and dedication to bringing critical results to our region.
Preliminary budget information will be presented to the Oakwood Budget Review Committee on Tuesday, October 14.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Mrs. Jackson expressed her gratitude to Commissioner Rice for comments regarding the Human Services Levy, emphasizing the pride that Oakwood residents take in recognizing community needs and supporting related initiatives. She encouraged citizens to continue their support for these efforts.
Mrs. Turben acknowledged everyone who participated in Oakwood’s first-ever business walk, thanking Business First for their involvement. She looks forward to developing a roadmap for future business engagement.
Vice Mayor Byington declared his personal endorsement of Issue 1, the Human Services Levy, and urged residents to exercise their right to vote. He expressed appreciation for community members who have engaged with the council and thanked Mr. Eaton for bringing solutions. He also acknowledged fellow council members, highlighting the integrity and community focus of the local governance compared to the federal level. He noted the effectiveness of communication and cooperation within the council.
Mayor Duncan reported on two public safety officers who went above and beyond by assisting a disabled vehicle blocking Patterson Road. The officers transported the individuals to a shelter and replaced a flat tire to remove the vehicle from the roadway safely. He also addressed a citizen report concerning a sinkhole on Far Hills Avenue, stating that the issue was investigated and repaired immediately by Public Works staff. Additionally, Council recognizes the challenges in maintaining parks and medians resulting from recent staff turnover and vacancies and appreciates the continued efforts of City staff to manage these areas during the transition.
