COUNCIL COMMENTS

Mr. Dorf thanked Council for its efforts in promoting e-bike safety, noting it as an important step in keeping the community safe. He also extended congratulations to Mike Morgan and Rose Morgan on 30 years at Central Perc.

Mrs. Jackson also recognized Mike Morgan and Rose Morgan on this milestone and commended Alex Heckman, Steve Lucht, and Nancy Chifala for their contributions in bringing the story of Carillon Historical Park to life. She also highlighted a recent e-bike safety class, noting that a bicycle purchased by the City is being used for instructional purposes, and encouraged participation in The Longest Table, a community-wide block party for residents of all ages.

Mrs. Turben expressed appreciation for Council’s proactive approach to e-bike safety and its collaboration with the state, noting that Representative Andrea White has been receptive to addressing the issue and may introduce legislation focused on e-bike education.

Vice Mayor Byington noted the upcoming That Day in May is on May 16, one of the City’s largest fundraising events, which includes a pancake breakfast, races, and a parade, with former Council Member Rob Stephens serving as grand marshal.

Mayor Duncan reported that on Friday, he and City Manager Katie Smiddy will attend the 19th annual Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony at Riverscape MetroPark, honoring 49 Montgomery County law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, including one from Oakwood. On May 15, he will also attend a Sidewalk Soldiers event supporting efforts to rehabilitate women who are victims of human trafficking, as well as a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Memorial near the Masonic Temple.
