Mr. Byington agreed about the parking situation in Oakwood but opined that approving this application as written is just adding to the problem.

Mr. Aidt opened the public hearing.

Ms. Linda Pearson, The Oakwood Historical Society Board Member, shared that she has been on The Oakwood Historical Society Board since 2009. She provided a brief history of the Long-Romspert Homestead House Museum. The Oakwood Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that runs on a fairly slender budget. They try to be a good member of the community and run programs that are history and educationally-based. There are not many venue options in the city of Oakwood and over the years, they have received requests to have events at the museum. She said that they would not have many large events, but they would like the flexibility to host events for people. She explained that the Board researched parking options. The options were expensive and the layout made it difficult. The Society wants to support the Oakwood community more than they currently are.

Mrs. Gowdy asked if there was a maximum occupancy limit at the museum.

Ms. Pearson said that she is hesitant to put a cap on the number of occupants. They have no intention of overwhelming the neighborhood in any way.

Mrs. Gowdy commented that larger events may require temporary restroom facilities.

Ms. Pearson agreed.

Mr. Aidt asked what annual events The Oakwood Historical Society currently has.

Ms. Pearson said that they have numerous children's programs; tours of the parks; the Far Hills Speaker Series; Antiques on the Lawn; Holiday Home Tours; and smaller events such as annual board meetings.

Mrs. Gowdy inquired about the wine and cheese event.

Ms. Pearson explained that the event was not held this year but in the past people walked or bicycled to the museum. It is a popular event and well attended.

Mr. Lauterbach asked if the museum is handicap accessible.

Ms. Pearson said that there is a handicap ramp into the house museum and visitors can access the first floor.

Mr. Byington asked what the Society's next steps would be if the proposed changes were denied.

Ms. Pearson said that they would need to find a way to raise money to maintain the upkeep of the museum.

Mr. Lauterbach asked why they are requesting an increase in operation hours.
