It was then moved by Mrs. Gowdy and seconded by Mr. Lauterbach that Application #24-4, to amend the special use permit previously issued to The Oakwood Historical Society for the premises located at 1947 Far Hills Avenue, be tabled pending review of issues by staff and society members.

Upon call of the roll on the question of the motion, the following vote was recorded:

Mr. Aidt invited Mr. Jacques to present the staff report for Application 24-5.

Mrs. Gowdy recused herself as she is employed by Oakwood City Schools. Mr. Aidt accepted her recusal. Mrs. Gowdy then left the dais and was seated in the audience.

Mr. Jacques shared that Application 24-5, submitted by the Oakwood Board of Education, is to amend a previously approved special use permit to upgrade field lighting at Mack Hummon Stadium. The stadium currently has six lighting poles with conventional halogen lighting heads that are at the end of their useful life. The Applicant is proposing to update the three western stadium light poles to LED lighting, take down the three eastern stadium poles and replace them with two new poles and fixtures. This will result in a decrease from six poles to five, three of which will have retro-fitted lighting heads and two of which will be entirely new poles and fixtures. The two new poles will be equipped with LED lighting as well, and will be 10’ shorter than the existing poles. The Applicant will also be upgrading the electrical service to accommodate the new lighting and to meet modern electrical codes and requirements.

Mr. Lauterbach asked if the concrete bases would be replaced.

Mr. Jacques said that he did not believe so, at least for the three retro-fitted poles along Schantz Avenue. The new poles on the east side would probably require new footers. He noted that the Applicant could speak to these specifics.

Mr. Aidt opened the public hearing.

Mr. John Coffman, Applicant’s Contractor, said that it depends on the extent of the existing foundation. He added that the new lights are an upgrade from halogen to LED and will provide shielding where the current lights do not.

Mr. Lauterbach asked if the lights would have the same number of fixtures.

Mr. Coffman explained that the LED lights have fewer fixtures.

Mr. Aidt asked what will happen to the poles on the west side of the stadium.
